Focus

So I was thinking about focus for a moment.

Like zeroing in, twist the lens,

look for sharp discrimination of

boundary and texture.

But ever finer differences

are not the only format of knowledge,

I also want the lens that blurs,

and shows all the connections.

The blur is the other end of focus,

less of a difference than points on a circle.

[not the points on the arc

but the curve that binds]

And that is our circle of perceptual choices.

The objects seen don't change,

But everybody gets a different world

when they fiddle with this thing called focus.
